Multicultural, feminist, psychoanalytic therapy for individuals and couples
Frequenty Asked Questions
Do you work with people in person or virtually?
Currently, I am working with clients virtually using a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. Clients must be physically located in Minnesota (the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples) during sessions.
How often do you meet with clients?
When our work together begins, we will meet on a weekly basis. Depending on many factors, I may suggest we meet more often, up to 3x/week. Over time, we may meet biweekly or monthly as therapy comes to a natural end or maintenance sessions are needed.
Why psychoanalysis?
I have personal and professional experience in various therapeutic modalities and have found psychoanalysis to be the most transformative over an extended period of time. From my perspective, the changes brought about by psychoanalytic psychotherapy are lifelong. Other modalities certainly have their place, but they are not the primary focus of my work. There are times where I may recommend you work with a provider who specializes in another treatment approach (EMDR, psychedelic-assisted therapy, DBT, etc.) to supplement our sessions together.
That said, I’m not a purist. I will likely ask (often) about your earlier experiences, but I will not bring every single thing back to something your mother once did. My practice has been marked by a willingness to challenge conventions and explore the significance of intersectionality. As a therapist specializing in LGBTQ+ and BIPOC clients, I recognize the harmfulness of white cultural assumptions and traditional gender roles in psychoanalysis’ origins. This is why I eagerly include feminist, anti-oppression, restorative justice, and liberatory theories in the therapy room.
Can I see you for both individual and couples therapy?
Due to the relational nature of my work, it is most effective to only work with me for one or the other. If you are a current or past client of mine who would like to embark on the other form of counseling, I have a large network of trusted colleagues that I’ll enthusiastically refer you to.
Do you work with kids or teens?
At this time I only work with individuals 18+.
Can you write me a prescription for medication or give me an assessment?
No, I am not licensed to provide medication or psychological testing, however, if our work together calls for these resources, I will be happy to connect you with providers in Minnesota who can.
What are the drawbacks to virtual therapy?
Because of virtual limitations, unfortunately am not able to assist clients with active self-harm, suicidal intent, or postpartum psychosis or OCD. Please consult the following resources if any of these are immediate concerns:
THRIVE Lifeline (Prioritizing LGBTQ+)
Blackline (Prioritizing BIPOC)
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text)
National Maternal Mental Health Hotline (1-833-TLC-MAMA)
Redleaf Center for Family Healing (HCMC Mother-Baby Program) to assess for postpartum psychosis as a medical emergency
If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 988 or go to your nearest emergency room

How much will therapy cost?
The short answer is, it depends! In accordance with the No Surprises Act, effective 1/1/2022, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
